Ford came out of the gates with an aggressive electrification plan, but it has since tempered its enthusiasm. The most recent sign of that shift is another delay of Ford’s planned next-generation electric truck and van, both of which were just moved back to 2028.

Ford’s new electric full-size pickup truck, named the T3, was originally planned for 2025 before moving to 2026. It’s now been pushed back to 2028, along with a next-generation electric van to replace the current E-Transit. The automaker confirmed the news in a comment to Automotive News, saying: “F-150 Lightning, America’s best-selling electric truck, and E-Transit continue to meet today’s customer needs. We remain focused on delivering our Ford+ plan and will be nimble in adjusting our product launch timing to meet market needs and customer demand while targeting improved profitability.”

The Blue Oval said it would shift its focus to developing a lower-cost EV platform that would form the base of a small electric pickup in 2027. CEO Jim Farley said the company would give more details on its plans at an event on August 11 at the Louisville Assembly Plant. Farley said the automaker would focus its product offerings to deliver more affordable hybrids and electrified models, and noted that Ford’s commercial business would be an important part of the shift.
