Headache-inducing dad jokes in the headline aside, the new Coastal package adds a dose of brightness and capability to the Bronco.
Billed as a group of accessories from Ford Performance and not a trim package one can order from the factory, this Coastal gear adds the sort of vibe Jeep gave the Wrangler with the Islander option. Features like a stripe with pastel blue and yellow plus a silver-hued grille lend a decently chill beach atmosphere to the truck, particularly in the Desert Sand color shown here. Those 17-inch silver wheels are also appropriately retro and are close enough to a modern-day Alcoa. Stock fenders are swapped out for silver ones, as well.
But the inclusion of a 2-inch off-road suspension lift is the real news, permitting owners of workaday Bronco trims a taste of that Sasquatch life. Note well that burlier tires are not part of the deal, so yer on your own for fresh rubber. This writer heartily recommends the new BFGoodrich KO3 for both its performance and looks. Yes, the latter is important to some customers. Assuming the kit is installed by a Ford dealer, warranties are unaffected.
Cal tools and bimini tops sound like big fun until you realize they’re only for the car. Actually, the silver Bronco horse logo on the roof that is included in this package is a neat bit of added kit all on its own. Consider us fans. As for the trims onto which Coastal gear can be installed, it runs the gamut of Base, Big Bend, Big Bend with Black Diamond package, and Outer Banks series. Sasquatch-equipped models are not the target here, likely because it would be pointless to install the Coastal 2-inch lift on a truck that already has a jacked suspension. If one really likes the stripe and top and wants them on a Sasquatch, we’re confident Ford will find a way to sell you just those items.
As it stands, the entire package – including the lift kit – will run $5,400 when it goes on sale. Interestingly, an install sheet from Ford stretches on for 93 pages, the bulk of which is dedicated to the suspension install.
