Honda’s selling a ton of Prologue EVs, thanks to aggressive incentives and discounts, but Acura hasn’t had the same luck with the related ZDX. In fact, the company has struggled with profitability and demand to the point that it’s throwing in the towel. The ZDX is being discontinued after the 2025 model year, after just one full year on sale.
Acura cited “slower-than-anticipated consumer EV adoption,” but the real problem comes from the extreme incentives the company needed to sell them. Some buyers reported seeing up to $30,000 off MSRP, and with all the bonuses thrown in, the ZDX is often cheaper to lease than many comparable gas vehicles.
Despite that, Acura isn’t giving up on EVs. It announced the RSX earlier this year, which will be its first to use an in-house EV platform. The ZDX and Honda Prologue share a platform with the Chevrolet Blazer EV and other models, and they’re built by General Motors.
Acura’s statement said, “ZDX has played a valuable role for the Acura brand, and will provide a foundation we will build on next year with the arrival of the all-electric Acura RSX, which will be produced at the EV Hub in Ohio in the second half of 2026, as well as with hybrid-electric Acura models now in development.”
